The Cockapoo dog is also known as the Cockepoo or Spoodle. The Cockapoo came about in the 1950s in the US as a mix between a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle. These dogs are becoming increasingly popular worldwide; the Cockapoo is one of the more popular mixed breeds in the US. Cockapoos are either the result of two purebreds (a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle) or two mixed breeds (two Cockapoos).
The size of the Cockapoo can vary but ranges from 4lbs to over 19lbs. This just depends on the parents' weights. There are four types of Cockapoos: teacup (under 6 lbs), toy (under 12 lbs), miniature (13 to 18 lbs), and standard (19 lbs and over). Coloring for the Cockapoo can vary as well, and any color is considered to be acceptable by Cockapoo breeders. Their coats are usually curly like a Poodle's, smooth and wavy like a Cocker Spaniel's, or a mix between the two. Their face also varies as they sometimes look more like a Cocker Spaniel, a Poodle, or a mix in between; some cockapoo's have long Spaniel ears and some do not.
This mixing creates a puppy that shows the best of both dog breeds. It also produces a better dog that is viewed by many families as the perfect family pet. The Cockapoo is very popular with families because of its even temperament and wonderful disposition. The Cockapoo is highly intelligent. The hybrid carries on the distinct qualities of loyalty and affection like both the Cocker Spaniel and the Poodle. This designer breed is also known to be hypoallergenic and non-shedding, which is very convenient. The Cocker Spaniel/Poodle mix is believed by many to be its own breed—some clubs are trying to get these dogs recognized as purebred. It's very well known and popular and is seen as a wonderful option for families that may have members with allergies to certain dog breeds, particularly those that like Cocker Spaniels and Poodles. The Cockapoo is also usually a fairly easy dog to train.
The Cockepoo is the ideal family pet as it has great qualities from both the Cocker Spaniel and Poodle. The great thing about Cockapoo dogs is that people allergic to Cocker Spaniels or Poodles are able to get a Cockapoo because it is hypoallergenic. These pets are loyal and make great lifelong companions.
